CM to launch next round of pulse polio drive on April 8

Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will launch the next phase of the pulse polio immunisation programme in the capital on April 8 by administering polio drops to children.

The new pulse polio round will have a special thrust to cover Jhugi Jhopdi clusters and ''unreached'' children.

During the February 2006 phase of the programme, the Delhi government immunised more than 26 lakh children.

With only one case of polio reported in 2005 and no case coming up in the current year so far, the government is aiming to free the national capital from polio.

It has resolved to strengthen routine immunisation and disease surveillance to ensure that any polio-virus is detected and responded to rapidly.
