AP first state to implement bio-gas plants:Nedcap chairman
Tirupati, Apr 5 (UNI) Villages which will not be electrified through conventional means by 2012 are eligible for implementaion of the new programme called ''village energy security'' launched by the Ministry of Non-conventional energy sources.
Addressing a press conference here today, Nedcap chairman Sagi Durga Prasad Raju said the objective of the programme was to provide energy for cooking, lighting, pumping for drinking water and irrigation purposes in remote unelectrified villages by using renewable energy sources with special emphasis on biomass using gasification technology.
While DRDA, ITDA and Forest deparment were the implementing agencies, Nedcap was coordinating the agency, he added.
During the current financial year, Mr Raju said the test projects were implemented at Amudalapalli village in Bhoopalapalli mandal of Warangal district and another at Banda village in Maredumilli mandal of East Godavari district.
He said Andhra Pradesh was the first state in implementing the bio-gas plants in the country, meeting the cooking energy needs of rural population.
