Advani seeks PM's intervention to stop Delhi demolition Drive
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) Former BJP President L K Advani today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to stop the ongoing demolition and sealing drive in the capital and sought this promulgation of an ordinance for this purpose.
In a letter to Dr Singh, Mr Advani pointed out that an alarming situation had developed in Delhi on account of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) using "coercve police force" for sealing shops and trading centres or razing them to the ground in the name of implementing judicial orders.
This had hit the livelihood of tens of thousands of poor and middle-class people, especially those dependent on self-employment, he said.
The former Deputy Prime Minister said the poor people were suffering for the lack of long-term planning, arbitrary implementation, corruption and various acts of commission and comission of the executive.
Holding the MCD, the Delhi Government and the Urban Development Ministry at the Centre responsible for the present situation, he said the matter would have not come to this pass if the Amnesty Plan suggested by the Vijay Kumar Malhotra Committee been accepted by the Delhi Government.
