Varanasi twin blasts: STF arrest five accused

Varanasi, Apr 5: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested five persons in connection with the March 7 twin blasts Varanasi.

STF SSP S K Bhagat said one of the arrested accused hailed from Allahabad.

''All of them are being subjected to intensive interrogation,'' he informed.

The twin blasts at the 16th century Sankatmochan Temple and Cantonment Railway Station here had claimed at least 17 lives and wounded over 100 people. Earlier, the police had released photographs of four persons, including a woman suspect. However, the step proved to be faux pas on part of the police and the 'suspects' were found to be innocent.

Navniet Sikera was removed as SSP Varanasi in the aftermath of the ghastly incident.
