Thai opposition will run in new poll if PM quits

Bangkok, Apr 4: Thailand's three opposition parties, which boycotted weekend polls, will run in a new general election if Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra quits now, the Democrat Party said today.

''We have no problem with the prime minister's offer,'' Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters after Thaksin said would step down if street protests ended and the opposition would run in a new poll to be held within 15 months.

''I have talked with representatives from the two other parties who said they had no problem with the offer either,'' Abhisit said.

''Therefore we would like to ask the prime minister to make an official announcement as soon as possible.'
