Six people, child dead in major fire in East Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 4: Six people including a child died here in a furious blaze that broke out in a Jhuggi Jhopdi cluster along the banks of the Yamuna near ITO yesterday night, a senior fire officer said.

More than 40 fire tenders were rushed to the site of the fire, which engulfed several hundred jhuggis in its ambit, and were engaged in putting out the fire, a fire official said.

Fire Brigade sources said the fire broke out in the JJ clusters near ITO at 2205 hrs.

The people residing in the JJ clusters had been asked to evacuate their homes, they said.

The exact cause of the fire however, was not known.
