Shah Rukh, Rani, Sachin favourite icons of kids

New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Rani Mukherjee are the favourite cinematic icons of the new generation kids while Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is their best loved sportsperson, a latest survey has revealed.

According to a new kids lifestyle study -- New Generations 2005 -- carried out by the Cartoon Network among children across 14 cities of India, about 20 per cent chose Shah Rukh Khan as their favourite actor while 16 per cent picked Rani Mukherjee among actresses.

Among the sportspersons, Sachin Tendulkar was the still the most popular, with 41 per cent of the respondents selecting him, while Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid were among other favourites.

Another interesting find of the survey released at a press conference here today, was that for the first time in several years, a non-cricketing sportsperson, tennis sensation Sania Mirza, also found a place among the favourites.

While 74 per cent of the kids had heard of Sania Mirza, nine out of ten surveyed correctly identified the sport she played.

In contrast, only 22 per cent of the kids surveyed had heard of motor racing champion Narain Kartikeyan, and only six out of ten could identify his sport.
