Privatisation of maritime training, education needed: Krishnan

Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) Deputy Director General of Shipping P H Krishnan has advocated privatisation of maritime training and education in the country.

Addressing a seminar on ''Maritime Training and Education'' yesterday, Mr Krishnan said, ''We should go for privatisation of maritime training and education in accordance to the Praveen Singh Committee report.'' Mr Krishnan said the report suggests opening of the maritime training and education to private entrepreneurs and dispensation of sponsorships for officers and ratings by shipping companies.

He said it was imperative for shipping companies to take fresh initiatives in implementing Bridge Resource Management (BRM) concept on their vessels and hence the necessity for introduction of the new training curricula was needed.

''The thrust should be on increasing teamwork and the effective use of the Bridge Resources by the bridge personnel, leadership in emergencies, analysing human causes and factors in casualties with the aid of focussed exercises and cases studies,'' Mr Krishnan observed.
