Patil asks officials to provide relief to fire victims of capital

New Delhi, Apr 4: Home Minister Shivraj Patil today directed officials to provide necessary relief immediately to the victims of the fire which took place in the Yamuna Pushta area of East Delhi last night.

Mr Patil visited the site of the fire this morning and interacted with the affected persons and their families. He was accompanied by Union Home Secretary V K Duggal, Chief Secretary of Delhi S Regunathan and Police Commissioner of Delhi K K Paul.

The Delhi government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs one lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 for major injury/incapacitation. An amount of Rs 1,000 for each jhuggi, gutted in the fire has also been announced by the government.

Arrangements are also being made by the Delhi government for providing necessary relief at the site.
