Olympic berth will come sooner than later, says Samresh

New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) Ace shooter Samresh Jung is unperturbed by the dismal show in the recently held ISSF World Cup in Guangzhou, China and assured that he will qualify for the Beijing Olympics sooner than later.

''The World Cup was held immediately after the Commonwealth Games and it was difficult to focus due to fatigue. But I know I will qualify for the Olympics pretty soon and I am looking forward to the World Cup in Brazil later this month to achieve that,'' the 'Goldfinger' said and added, ''I am shooting well quite consistently and getting the desired numbers.'' Indian shooters, with the exception of Gagan Narang, failed to make their mark in Guangzhou after their rich exploits in Melbourne.

Gagan won a gold and hence a ticket to Beijing 2008 in the 10m Air Rifle event.

However, he does not want to have sleepless nights for Olympics as yet as there were other important assignments before that.

''It's a long way to go before Olympics. I am concentrating on other events including the Asian Games in Doha later this year.'' Samresh won a whopping seven medals -- five golds, one silver and a bronze -- to bag the prestigious David Dickson Award for the Best Athlete in Melbourne.

Had his pistol not ditched him at the last moment, he could have even bagged a record sixth gold to equal the feat achieved by legendary Aussie swimmer Ian Thrope.
