NHRC seeks report from Andhra govt on stone quarr
New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) Taking cognisance of a media report about problems being faced by people due to stone quarrying in Andhra Pradesh, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today sought a report within two weeks from the state government on the issue.
The Commission stated that if the contents of the report, highlighting the problems faced by the people of Ambedkar Nagar near Warangal, was correct it raised a serious issue of human rights violation.
According to the media report, the residents were complaining that the dust emitting from the stone quarries had caused health hazards.
The report quoted the residents as saying that blasting at the quarries took place during day and night due to which they were unable to sleep.
The blasting of the quarries it was reported had also caused cracks in the houses of the residents UNI NR MIR DS1450
