Irate hawker assaults assistant municipal commissioner

Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) Irate hawker today allegedly assaulted Assistant Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Ranjit Dhakne in suburban Kandivali today.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) spokesperson Dadasaheb Shivjatak informed that a team of civic officials, headed by AMC Dhakne, had gone to R-south ward in Kandivali to demolish an illegal structure on the footpath as part of its anti-encroachment drive.

Some irate hawkers began pelting stones at the team of civic officials including Dhakne, who sustained injuried to the head, he said adding, Dhakne has been admitted to the civic-run Bhagwati Hospital at Borivali.

In the past eight days, the BMC has demolished over 6,000 huts and other illegal encroahments on footpaths and roadsides.
