Indian Navy knocked out by railwaymen in Uday Iftekhar tourney
Bhopal, Apr 4 (UNI) Man of the Match Aaris Alam's scintillating unbeaten knock of 89 helped Railway Division, Jhansi, script a six-wicket victory over Indian Navy, Mumbai, in the 31st All-India Uday Iftekhar Cricket Tournament being played at Babe Ali Stadium here today.
In yesterday's encounter, the railwaymen won the toss and invited the sailors to wield the willow first. Tight bowling by railwaymen said the Navy batsmen being bundled out for a paltry 173 runs in 45.4 overs.
Medium-pacer Rajendra Gupta took three early wickets and the sailors never really recovered from those jolts. However, valiant attempts by Sanjeev Mishra (47) and Sachin Nadkarni (37) aided the Navy.
While chasing the victory total, the Railway Division batsmen got off to a disastrous start as three batsmen were back in pavilion when the scoreboard read a mere 29 but then Alam's strokeplay steadied the innings.
The railwaymen now play IPC, bhopal, in the semi-final.
