India welcomes Nepal ceasefire, calls for end to violence

New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) India today welcomed the ceasefire between government forces and Maoists in Nepal and reaffirmed that constitutional forces in the Himalayan kingdom should work together to find a lasting solution to the problems facing that country.

An External Affairs Ministry spokesman said at a press conference that India had always taken the position that violence is not the answer to the problems facing the country and that Maoists should abandon violence as a political instrument.

''We trust that this ceasefire will be of a permanent nature and we continue to believe that the constitutional forces in Nepal should work together and find a lasting solution to the problems being faced by that country,'' the spokesman said in reply to a question.
