Hussain remembers 11 years association with Council

Patna, Apr 4 (UNI) Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Jabir Hussain, who has been elected to the Rajya Sabha, today expressed gratitude to members for cooperation to run the house.

Prof Hussain, who assumed charge on April 17, 1995, said it was the responsibility of the entire house to fulfil aspirations of the poor people.

He said he was more confident that members were sensititive to the people's miseries and they would succeed in fulfilling the aspirations of the common man.

Recalling his speech in the house in 1996, he said, ''We should work hard to make our country and state strong and developed.'' The Chairman expressed satisfaction that 24 vacant seats of local bodies had been filled up following the elections.

He recalled cooperations of the then Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi to the chair during their tenure.

Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar paid tribute to the services rendered by Prof Jabir Hussain during his 11 year tenure as the Chairman of the house.

He said the house would miss the valuable guidance of Prof Hussain as he had been elected to the Rajya Sabha.

''During his tenure Prof Hussain earned the acclaim and support of both the government and opposition,'' he added.

Terming the tenure of prof Hussain as glorious and remarkable, Mr Kumar said he and all the members of the house would always remember his services with affection and honour.
