Gujarat Congress seeks security of Indian fishermen
Ahmedabad, Apr 4 (UNI) A delegation of Congress leaders from Gujarat met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi yesterday with a request to ensure early release of 527 fishermen and their 287 boats seized by Pakistan Marine Security Agency during the last four years.
The delegation impressed upon Dr Singh the need to demarcate the marine border along the Sir Creek, in absence of which the Pakistani agency catch Indian fishermen, who are unable to ascertain the line, a party press release here today said.
The delegration, led by Congress President's Political Secretary Ahmed Patel, urged the Prime Minister to prepare an action plan to strengthen the security of the fishermen. Since the boats are also seized by the Pakistani agency, the families of Indian fishermen lose the source of livelihood, they pointed out.
