New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) Chief of Army Staff General J J Singh today released a book on the first ascent of Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest peak, written by a former colonel who led the expedition.
Titled 'Koh-Himalaya-Kanchenjunga' (The Mountain God), the book is written by Col. Narinder Kumar, a veteran mountaineer who once commanded the army's High Altitude Warfare School.
Lauding the courage of mountaineers, Gen. Singh said the army has always been at the forefront of encouraging expeditions.
Col. Kumar has also led expeditions to the Mount Everest and Nanda Devi.
