Forest officials trap leopard at Miramar area

Panaji, Apr 4 (UNI) Residents of Miramar area here finally heaved a sigh of relief after officials from the forest department today trapped a fuly-grown leopard from the backyard of a private bungalow.

Conservator of Forests R K Singh told mediapersons that the captured leopard will be kept under observation and then taken to Bondla.

The bungalow owner Anjalia Menon said she got curious when her dogs began barking loudly. And when she went out, she saw a leopard trying to sneak into her bungalow. Panic-striken, she informed the police.

Policemen along with forest officials rushed to the spot and immediately cordonned off the area, as several people had gathered in front of the bungalow to catch a glimpse of the cat.

When one of the forest officials fired xylazine to tranquilize the animal, it got furious and began running from one end to the other in the backyard of the bungalow. However, the forest officials managed to cage the feline after a three-hour chase.
