EC issues notice to WB Transport Minister

New Delhi, Apr 4 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has issued a notice to West Bengal Transport Minister Subhash Chakraborty raising questions about certain portions of his election speech in the state.

The notice was served to the senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader a week ago, said Mr Nilotpal Basu, the party's Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal.

Mr Chakraborty is contesting election from the Balgachia constituency on the outskirts of Kolkata.

The Minister, who was given a week's time to respond to the notice, today sent in his reply, said Mr Basu.

He, however, refused to divulge the contents of Mr Chakraborty's letter to the EC.
