CPI favours law on 'office of profit' issue

Guwahati, Apr 4 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today said a legislation will have to be passed in Parliament on the 'office of profit' issue.

Talking to newsmen here, CPI leader A B Bardhan said his party was in favour of discussion on the issue in the just concluded session before Parliament was adjourned sine-die.

Mr Bardhan said, ''All political parties should cooperate with the government in enacting a legislation on the issue in Parliament.'' The veteran left leader regretted that the Congress was sometimes not consulting partners of the UPA coalition and was taking unilateral decisions in respect of some issues.

''The CPI is always putting pressure on the government to have a collective decision on all issues on the basis of the Common Minimum Programme,'' he said.

He also avoided a direct reply on the issue of possible midterm Parliamentary polls.
