British Parliamentarians to meet Bhattacharjee on business

Kolkata, Apr 04 (UNI) A six-member delegation of British Parliamentarians will hold a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here on April eight to explore possibilities of more British investment and areas of mutual cooperation.

British Deputy High Commissioner Simon Wilson today said the team of Labour Party MPs would be led by Mr Stevens Pound.

The newly appointed British diplomat, who paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister at the Writers' Buildings, told reporters that the UK was looking forward to having more business taking advantage of the "investor-friendly" atmosphere in West Bengal.

Describing as "strongly positive" the measures initiated by the state Government, Mr Wilson said this had sent across a positive message to the UK.

" I congratulated Mr Bhattacharjee for having spread to the UK a strong positive looking message. We talked about the need for having lot more British investment in West Bengal and cultural exchanges, " he said.

Mr Wilson said while the UK was looking for new ventures, the big British programmes, including health projects, would continue.

The British Parliamentarians would arrive here from Delhi.
