BHEL Bhopal registers 19 pc growth

Bhopal, Apr 4 (UNI) Public-sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's Bhopal plant, which is in its golden jubilee year, marched ahead by registering a 19 per cent growth in turnover with the 2005-06 figure being Rs 1,825 crore compared to the corresponding 2004-05 figure of Rs 1,534 crore, Executive Director P T Deo said here today.

''As per unaudited results, the profit before tax was up 43 per cent at Rs 222 crore compared to the earlier Rs 156 crore while the value addition per employee shot up 31 per cent from Rs 7.34 lakh to Rs 9.62 lakh,'' Mr Deo said.

Cash receipts were up 15 per cent from Rs 1,621 crore to Rs 1,862 crore, export turnover rose by 91 per cent to Rs 312 crore from Rs 163 crore while economic value addition multiplied 13 times to Rs 39 crore from Rs 3 crore.

''Expenditure on research and development rose four times to Rs 20 crore and capital expenditure increased three times to Rs 31 crore,'' Mr Deo added.

The Navratna company has to its credit hybrid technology, a 290-KW invertor for the Shatabdi and Rajdhani express trains, water harvesting, turbines for nuclear power, diversification of products, renovation and modernisation.

Products were exported to Taiwan, Oman, Zambia, Bangladesh, Uganda, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
