As strategic partner Flextronics to invest in SemIndia

Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) Chip manufacturing company SemIndia has signed a MoU with Singapore-based global electronics giant Flextronics.

As per the agreement, Flextronics will become a preferred manufacturing partner for SemIndia.

This partnership that will create India's first comprehensive ecosystem, necessary to excel in electronic products manufacturing.

''The partnership with Flextronics is an endorsement of SemIndia's vision of creating India's first world class wafer fabrication unit.

This project has successfully managed to bring together all components of the ecosystem in India, which include semiconductor technology, semiconductor chip manufacturing, systems manufacturing and investment and policy initiatives/incentives commitment from the Central and state governments, necessary for doing semi-conductor and electronic products manufacturing in India.'' said SemIndia Chairman Vinod K Agarwal.

Under this strategic partnership, Flextronics will manufacture electronic products for SemIndia and the latter will manufacture semi-conductor chips for cell phones, set-top boxes and personal computers manufactured by Flextronics in India, an official release today said.

''Partnership between SemIndia and Flextronics is a key milestone that will play a critical role in laying the foundation for a long term and sustained semiconductor and electronic products manufacturing industry in India. It also sets the stage for long-term innovation, high-quality manufacturing jobs, creation of ancillary industries and production of affordable world class electronic products to address the growing demand of the Indian market, most of which are being imported currently,'' Union Minister for communications and IT Thiru Dayanidhi Maran said.
