Dehradun, Apr 3 (UNI) Rumours that two bombs were recovered at Hardwar Railway station this morning sent shock waves in the Uttaranchal Assembly but the police later dismissed the incident as a false alarm.

BJP legislator Madan Kaushik told the assembly that two live bombs were reportedly detected in Hardwar and later defused by the police bomb disposal squad.

''The discovery of bombs at a time when Vice-president and Chief Ministers of many states were scheduled to be in Hardwar to attend a function, reveals serious security lapses,'' he said. His concern was shared by other members.

However, SSP, Haridwar Abhinav Kumar, when contacted by UNI, clarified that though two packets were recovered at the Railway station, they were later found to be containing only garbage.

He asserted that foolproof security measures were being taken in the pilgrim city and the police was taking no chances in view of the recent Varanasi blasts.
