Jammu, Apr 3 (UNI) A total of Rs 8284.87 crore was spent on Central Forces deployed in the country for maintaining internal security and guarding of borders till December 2005 during the last fiscal year.
According to official sources, of the total amount, Rs 2693.16 crore were spent on Border Security Force (BSF) followed by Rs 2965.54 crore on Central Reserve Police force(CRPF), Rs 844.47 crore on 93,521 Central Industrial Security Force(CISF), Rs 389.37 crore on Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Rs 915.95.15 crore on Assam Rifles Personnel, Rs 114.38 crore on National Security Guards(NSG) and Rs 362 crore on Special Security Bureau (SSB) deployed in the country.
According to them during the year 1988-89, when the strength of BSF was 1,35,544 and an amount of Rs 435.95 crore was incurred on it. Similarly Rs 321.82 crore was spent on then 1,20,979 CRPF personnel strength, while Rs 119.55 crore were incurred on 66,102 CISF personnel. On 23,419 ITBP and 52,067 Assam Rifles Personnel the expenditure was Rs 76.90 crore and Rs 139.59 crore respectively. An amount of Rs 26.15 crore and Rs 73.13 crore were spent on 7,563 NSG personnel and 23,244 SSB personnel respectively during that period.
The sources said in order to meet the challenges of increased militancy and terrorist activities, a five year comprehensive plan for modernisation of weaponry, machinery, transport, and related field is under implementation.
The financial outlay for the five year plan is Rs 3740.71 crore.
Major portion of this, Rs 2330.84 crore will be spent on modernisation of BSF followed by Rs 542.75 crore on CRPF, Rs 484.75 crore on Assam Rifles, Rs 187.78 crore on ITBP, Rs 112.10 crore on CISF, and Rs 82.49 crore on National Security Guards. For Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB), a provision of Rs 444.33 crore has been made with effect from the year 2005-06.
