Rohani for debate on office-of-profit issue
Jabalpur, Apr 3 (UNI) Pointing out that there was no dearth of intellectuals in India, Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani today said the need of the hour was a national debate on the issue of persons holding two offices of profit each.
''The political upheaval caused by the office-of-profit issue has truly made it a subject for serious debate,'' he told UNI here.
Mr Rohani pointed out that the Supreme Court made it clear that ''profit'' did not only mean an official car or bungalow but also other facilities that could be characteristically availed due to a person's influence after occupying a post.
''Whenever a person accepts the responsibility of more than one post, he or she is unable to do justice to both responsibilites,'' he felt.
The Speaker said the concept of ''one man one post'' should be developed.
''There is a decline in the level of fact-based debate in the vidhan sabhas. With an eye on propaganda and garnering cheap popularity, legislators waste precious assembly time on useless issues,'' Mr Rohani added.
