Rally to protest construction of Tipaimukh dam

Imphal, Apr 3 (UNI) A rally to protest the proposed construction of the Tipaimukh dam in Manipur was taken out today at Imphal by the Action Committee against Tipaimukh Project.

Thousands of people, including women and children, participated in the rally which started from Khuman Lampak.

The silent procession passed through some important roads of Imphal and converged near Thau ground.

The rallyists carried festoons and placards denouncing the decision to construct the dam.

The Committee said about 288.60 sq kms of land would be submerged by the dam and 40,000 people displaced.

Huge cultivable land would also be submerged once the project is implemented, the Committee said.
