Chennai, Apr 03 (UNI) After making a vain bid to get a berth in the AIADMK-led Democratic People's Alliance (DPA), Director-Politician Vijaya T Rajender, heading the All India Latchiya DMK (AILDMK), today announced his decision to go it alone in the May eight Assembly poll.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Rajender, who had been a vocal supporter of Ms Jayalalithaa, said he had decided to sever ties with the AIADMK as he did not want to continue in the AIADMK-led front at the cost of his self respect.
Claiming that he was the first to offer support to the AIADMK, Mr Rajender said he demanded 35 seats and after five rounds of talks, wanted at least nine seats, but the AIADMK offered only one seat.
His partymen were more important to him than one seat, he said, adding, when the AIADMK was left friendless, he was supporting it in the last one and a half years, only to be ditched by the AIADMK. He would soon announce the number of seats to be contested by his party.
AILDMK was the second party to walk out from the AIADMK-led front after pledging support, following denial of berth. On being spurned, rebel Congress leader Tindivanam K Ramamurthy. who floated the Tamil Nadu Indira Congress, came out and fielded candidates on his own.
