More sentenced to 12 yr RI in Marine Drive rape case

Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) A local court today sentenced dismissed police constable Sunil Atmaram More to 12 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a teenaged college girl inside the Marine Drive police station in South Mumbai last year.

The Kala Ghoda Additional Sessions Judge K U Chandiwal held More guilty of raping the 17-yr-old girl, on the ground of circumstantial evidence in the infamous case, in which the accused raped the girl inside the police station on April 21 last year.

More has been charged under sections 376(2 A, B) (rape), 342 (wrong confinement) and 506(2) (threatening) of the IPC.

Besides the RI, More has also been slapped a fine of Rs 26,500, failing which he will have to undergo an additional year of imprisonment.
