K'taka Govt asks Centre to take action against Biocon

Bangalore, Apr 3 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has written to the Centre to take action against pharma major Biocon India Ltd for violating import norms and preparation procedures of drugs, Health Minister R Ashok informed the Legislative Council today.

Replying to a calling-attention motion by Dr M P Nadagouda (JD-U) and others, he said the State Government had sent a report to the Centre about the violation of norms for importing Mehthylcobalamin, a raw material for manufacturing a drug meant for the treatment of nervous disorders, from China.

The officials of the Central Drug Controlling Department would come here next week for conducting an inquiry into the violation of import norms and standard preparation procedures.

Council Chairman V R Sudarshan instructed the Government to take stringent action against such companies which violate norms for manufacturing drugs.
