India to participate in World Junior Fencing championship

Chandigarh, Apr 3 (UNI) A 11-member team comprising of six girls will represent India in the World Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship to be held at Taebaek City (South North) from April 8 to 17.

The team comprises of seven fencers from Manipur, two from Punjab and one each from MP and Maharashtra, Fencing Federation of India, President Arvind Khanna announced here today.

The fencers have been selected on the bases of their performance at the last National Fencing championship held at Jammu. Presently these fencers are under-going training at NIS, Patiala.

The team comprises of: Boys--Sovaraj Singh (foil), Amardeep Basidia (espee), N Chigsomba (sabre), A Dhudhare (epee) and W Hemanta (sabre).

Girls: Usharani Devi (foil), Reni Devi (foil), Samasakhi Devi (epee), Shammipreet Kaur (epee), Harina Devi (sabre) and Sandeep Kaur (sabre).

Mr Hemjit Meetei of Manipur and Narinder Kumar of Haryana will accompany the teams as coaches while Mr Arun Vij, general secretray of the Fencing Federation of India will be the Chief-de-Mission.
