Fire on board MV Nicobar

Port Blair, Apr 03 (UNI) MV Nicobar, a vessel on its voyage from here to Kolkata caught fire yesterday.

The fire was brought under control due to prompt action taken by the ship officers and the crew. No casualty or loss of property has been reported.

According to a report received from the Directorate of shipping services, the incident took place in the machinery room of the vessel at around 1100 hrs yesterday, while she was entering Hooghly river, just about five hours from the Kidderpur port.

The vessel had 1026 passengers on board, sources added.
