FICCI describes Modi as a visionary leader

Written by: Staff

Vadodara, Apr 3 (UNI) The newly elected president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Saroj Kumar Poddar, today gave the whole credit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the state at number one position in the country as far as industrial growth was concerned.

''Today Gujarat is at number one, not when only when compared to other states of India, but also to many South Asian countries because of the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Modi,'' Mr Poddar said.

Addressing a press conference here on his first visit to the State after assuming the charge of the chamber of commerce last month, Mr Poddar said Gujarat has remained on the forefront of industrial growth, ranking first in six of the eight categories, including investment, manufacturing output, market capitalisation, industrial and agricultural growth rate and employment generation.

Mr Poddar, who is scheduled to meet Mr Modi tomorrow at Ahmedabad on the eve of FICCI's national executive meeting, said his organisation would like to congratulate the Chief Minister for achieving tremendous success in promoting industrial growth in the state.

Stating that FICCI would like to make some constructive suggestions to the Chief Minister during tomorrow's meeting, Mr Poddar said his organisation, in fact, wants to partner with Gujarat in order to accelerate its pace of growth.

The FICCI president, who arrived here today along with Federation's secretary general Dr Amit Mitra to attend Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI)'s Awards for Excellence-2005 presentation function, also praised Gujarat for maintaining an impresive growth of 9.8 per cent as compared to the national average of 8 per cent.
