Chennai, Apr 3 (UNI) Students of the Deenadayal Engineering College here and PSN College of Engineering Tirunelveli today resorted to a indefinite fast at the premises of Directorate of Technical Education in protest against the alleged atrocities by the college management against the students.

The agitation was led by Students Federation of India (SFI) Secretary Selva.

More than 300 students gathered at the Anna varsity premises and began their fast-unto-death urging the Director of Technical Education (DOTE) to redress their grievances.

Apparently agitated at not getting the affiliation for marine and aeronautical engineering courses, the angry students of the PSN College joined the protest.

The students of Deenadayal Engineering College alleged that despite several representations to the Anna University on the poor infrastructure facility at the college and lack of proper faculty and hike in the fees, no action had been taken against the college management.

Following this the students sought transfer to other colleges and wanted a written undertaking from the DOTE in this regard.

The DOTE officials promised to consider the students plea to transfer to other colleges on April 7. 'However we want them to give it in writing and take efforts genuinely to ensure that our request is fulfilled,'' the students said.

Meanwhile, Mr Selva demanded action against the college managements, which, he claimed, had threatened the students for launching agitations.
