Allahabad, Apr 3 (UNI) All India Mahila Congress today alleged that crime against women had shot up by over 35 per cent during the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in Uttar Pradesh.

Interacting with UNI here the national president of the Congress women wing, Rita Bahuguna Joshi claimed that UP ranked next only to Bihar in terms of cases of crime against women.

''The cases of crime against women have grown in UP between 35 to 50 per cent and the UP State Women Commission claims that violence against women has toned down in the state are unfounded,'' she added.

The UP government was concealing facts to prove that cases of crime against women had gone down in the state. The real facts about the increase in violence and crime against women in UP has been collated by the National Women Commission, Ms Joshi claimed.

Ms Joshi informed that a training camp of Mahila Congress will take place in Hardwar on April 8 and 9. The camp was likely to be attended by Uttaranchal Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari and senior Congress leader Moti Lal Vohra.
