New Delhi, Apr 3: The Delhi High Court today summoned Army Chief General Manvendra Singh to be personally present in the court on May 25 on a contempt petition filed by Sultan Singh for not abiding by the order for his reinstatement.

A division bench headed by Justice M K Sharma asked General Singh to be present in the court to explain the reasons for not reinstating Sultan Singh, who was working as a soldier with the Indian Army.

Singh had filed a petition in the High Court seeking his reinstatement as the grounds of his dismissal was illegal and unfounded. According to the petition, some cases were lodged in his village when he was 15-year-old and he was acquitted by the District Court in January 2005.

The Delhi High Court had directed the Army to reinstate him by December 31, 2005.
