BJP not averse to field joint candidate against Sonia : Rajnath
New Delhi, Apr 3 (UNI) BJP president Rajnath Singh today said the party would field its candidate against Congress President Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli in the May eight byelection but did not rule out the possibility of fielding a joint opposition candidate.
In an interview to UNI, Mr Singh said the BJP would definitely contest the elections against Mrs Gandhi who sought to fool the people of the country by pretending to bestow another sacrifice on the nation.
"Everyone knows that she resigned more out of compulsion (majboori) than conviction and nobody will be fooled," he said repeating his famous saying 'phisalpade to har har gange' Asked about expelled Ms Uma Bharti seeking the party's help and support for her candidate from Rae Bareli, Mr Singh said the BJP was a political party and it was not averse to fielding a common candidate if the need arose.
Nobody, he said objects to Mrs Gandhi being in politics but it was time to for the Congress to stop projecting her as an icon of sacrifice.
He said Mrs Gandhi continues to head the political party, her son Rahul Gandhi is a Congress MP and her daughter is exercising control over political decisions and she still wants people to believe that she is commiting another act of sacrifice.
