BHEL starts new course industrial health

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 3 (UNI) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) unit here today started the Asociated Fellow in Industrial Health (AFIH) course at its National Model Centre for Occupational Health Services.

Speaking after the inauguration, BHEL Executive Director V Gopalakrishnan claimed the unit pioneered the concept of occupational health services (OHS) in India.

It started its OHS Centre about 30 years back before it became a statutory requirement. Today, it was the first in South India to win accreditation from Union Government to conduct post graduate course in industrial health for doctors working in hazardous units.

In his speech, Course Director N K Chandrasekaran said the AFIH will include occupational medicine and hygiene, work physiology and ergonomics. About 14 doctors working in different industries have joined the AFIH.
