AITUC rally at Renukoot on April 19

New Delhi, Apr 3 (UNI) The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has called for a massive protest rally at Renukoot on April 19 against the death of ten contract labourers who died a few days ago.

The labourers had died at Renukoot when a gas cylinder exploded on the premises of Kanodia Chemicals Ltd, a press release said.

Several others had received serious injuries, it alleged.

AITUC said the company management allowed poisonous chlorine gases to be made and stored in cylinders which were too old for use in flagrant violation of environment norms laid down by the government.

There could have been many more deaths, AITUC added saying that the company often used carrot to make the labourers fill more gas in the cylinders than permissible even at the cost of risking lives.

''Now that an accident, which is entirely a making of the company, has occured the least the government ought to do is to register a case of criminal negligence against the Kanodia Chemicals Ltd since it is an example of privatisation at its worst,'' the release said.

AITUC had called for a judicial probe into the whole incident and compensation to the dependants of the deceased.
