65 per cent voting in Asom; voting peaceful
Guwahati, Apr 3 (UNI) Asom witnessed peaceful voting in the first phase of the assembly elections in the state today covering 65 constituencies, in which more than 65 per cent of the electorate cast ballots.
According to the Election Commission Control Room, the final voting figures may go well beyond 65 per cent.
Political parties, however, blamed erratic weather and strict Election Commission guidelines for the "low turnout".
There was no report of any violence, not even any minor incident, from any part of the 65 constituencies involved in voting. This is the first election in the state, which has not been overshadowed by any violence or boycott call from militant groups.
