UPA is Ulta Pulta Alliance: Venkaiah
Bellary, Karnataka, Apr 2 (UNI) Terming the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre as an ''Ulta Pulta Alliance'' senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today claimed that it would ''crumble under its own weight'' after the coming Assembly elections to five States.
''For every one step taken forward, the Government takes three steps backward...The UPA and its allies will face a division leading to its collapse,'' he said, addressing a party workers meeting here.
Strongly criticising the UPA Government's move to undertake a count of Muslims in the armed forces, Mr Naidu claimed that this could lead to a second division in the country.
Stating that the entire nation must have one law for all citizens even in marriage-related issues, he said the BJP would never accept the Shariat laws with regard to divorce. ''The divorce system should be the same for all Indians and must be endorsed by the courts,'' he asserted.
Clarifying that the BJP was not against the Muslim community, he said his party was opposed to a member of the Muslim League, which played a key role in the country's partition, becoming an Union Minister. ''Is it necessary to induct a Muslim League member in the Union Cabinet to safeguard the interests of Muslims,'' he asked.
