Surat district admn says Uchchhal bird flu free

Surat, Apr 2 (UNI) Surat district administration has sent a report to the Gujarat Government on various measures implemented in Uchchhal taluka to prevent a bird flu outbreak.

The state government will forward the same to the Centre which is expected, on the basis of the report, to declare Uchchhal as bird flu free. Talking to UNI, Additional Collector D V Mewada said once the report is approved by the Centre, it will declare the taluka as bird flu free.

''We expect the Centre to make such a declaration within two to three weeks,'' Mr Mewada said.

Meanwhile, an Animal Husbandry Department official said the ban on poultry trade in Uchchhal will be lifted only after the taluka is declared free of the virus.

''We know that the situation is under control. But we do not want to take any risk'' the official said.
