Rs two a kg rice, the moment we come to power:Karunanidhi
Chennai, Apr 2 (UNI) DMK President M Karunanidhi today took a dig at his critics and said rice would be sold through ration shops at Rs two a kg, the moment his party is voted back to power in the May eight assembly polls.
Talking to reporters here, he said there was no bar in increasing the present subsidy to provide rice at Rs two per kg in ration shops.
''The moment DMK is voted back to power, the announcement providing ration rice at Rs two per kg, as promised in the poll manifesto, will be made'', he said, hitting out at his detractors, who were ridiculing the promise made in the manifesto.
He was responding to criticisms that the the promise of providing rice at Rs two per kg in ration shops and distribution of free colour televisions, were only aimed at cheating the middle class and the poor people, including women.
On the feasibility of giving free colour TVs to the people, Mr Karunanidhi said he would explain it at the DPA election campaign meeting to be launched on April five in the city.
Asked about criticisms against the promises made in DMK's manifesto, Mr Karunanidhi said they were born out of fear that the AIADMK would be routed in the polls.
