Rs 4.58 cr tax collected in Valley

Srinagar, Apr 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Department of Commercial Taxes (Recovery), has collected a record of Rs 4,58 crore and also attached 75 shops besides arrested three persons during the last financial year, an official spokesman said.

He said tax recovery was made possible from 492 dealers of Kashmir minly due to the support of the public in general and full cooperation extended by the Kashmir Federation of Traders and Jammu and Kashmir Chambers and Commerce and Industries in particular.

Quoting Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes (Recovery), Kashmir division, Farooq Ahmad Khan said, during the year collectorate attached 75 shops and arrested three persons to recover the arrears under Land Revenue Act.

Encouraged by the support from all quarters, the collectorate is gearing up all available resources to recover all the arrears from the defaulters.

Meanwhile, the department has requested the government for posting of two Commercial Tax Officers, Six inspectors, 10 Sub Inspectors and two additional vehicle to meet the target fixed for the year 2006-2007.
