Kolhapur, Apr 2 (UNI) Rival groups clashed during the Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank elections here today forcing police to resort to a mild lathicharge to disperse the mobs.

The two groups clashed near the Padmaraje Girls High School, Petala, where the polling process was in progress to elect a new Bank board.

Police said one of the groups comprised supporters of MLA Satej Patil while the other group comprised supporters of former Maharashtra minister Digvijay Khanvilkar.

Police picked up a few of Mr Patil's supporters in this connection. Mr Patil, however, objected to this and was seen arguing with deputy superintendent of police Sudhakar Pathare.

The polling was held to elect 22 new members to the Bank board.

Six members have already been declared elected unopposed.
