Noted poet passes away

Vijayawada, Apr 2 (UNI) Noted poet Viswanadha Pavan Shastry died at a private hospital today.

He was admitted to the hospital after he collapsed during a speech at Yanam Engineering College yesterday.

Shastry, 53, is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.

Floral tributes were paid by city MP Lagadapati Rajgopal and former Mayor Jandyala Shankar among others at his residence after the body was brought from Kakinada hospital.

Mr Shastry wrote several books and a novel named 'Ubaya Bharati' which won the hearts of the readers.

He was the second son of Gyanapeete Awardee Viswanadha Satyanarayana who wrote the 'Veyi Padagalu,' a novel which was translated in Hindi by former Prime Minster Mr P V Narasimha Rao as ''Sahasra Phan''.
