New political party launched in Sikkim

Gangtok, Apr 2 (UNI) A new dimension was added to Sikkim politics today with the launching of a new political party.

The Sikkim Progressive party was born with Mr Sherang Subba as its president. Mr Subba, who was the General Secretary of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, had resigned from the post as well as from the primary membership of the party expressing his disatisfaction over the style of functining of SPCC President Nar Bahadur Bhandari.

Mr Subba told newsmen here that besides his a ten-member central executive committee was also formed to look into various aspects of the party.

He said the party had also chosen a tricolour rectangular flag for the party with white on the top, green on the middle and red at the bottom.

Mr Subba said they would soon meet the Election Commission for the registration of the party.
