MK scents mischief in free cycle scheme
Chennai, Apr 2 (UNI) DMK President M Karunanidhi today alleged irregularities in the purchase of cycles for distribution to Adi Dravidar students under the ''Free Bicycle Scheme'' of the AIADMK Government.
In a statement here, he claimed the goverment had modified Sales Tax and tender conditions to favour a particular manufacturer.
Seeking clarification from the government for hastily favouring the company and altering rules, the DMK Chief said the tenders were called by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department Director.
As per tender guidelines, the price of a cycle alone should be taken into account and not the applicable Sales Tax.
Four companies, which participated in the tender process, had quoted the same price. But the government had awarded the contract to the particular manufacturer and issued an order to the effect.
The contract was given despite objections to the changes from Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation and its Managing Director, he further alleged.
