Kolkata, Apr 2 (UNI) CPI(M) State Committee Secretary Biman Bose today alleged that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was trying to whip up a pre-poll violence against the Left workers and appealed to his party workers not to fall into her 'trap'.

''The calls the Trinamool leader is giving for is aimed at provoking the people to kill CPI(M) workers. These are direct provocation of violence and our partyment must not step into this trap,'' he said in a statement.

The comment of Mr Bose came a day after Ms Banerjee vowed to teach the CPI(M) a lesson and called upon the people to 'pounce' on those wanting the Marxists in the Government.

Ms Banerjee gave the war cry at election rallies in North 24 Parganas district charging up the people to take advantage of the measures taken by the Election Commission.

Claiming that 4,500 CPI(M) workers had been killed in the state over the past 29 years, Mr Bose said the people should be alert against any provocation and maintain peace.
