Major fire breaks out at JNPT, 12 persons rescued

Mumbai, Apr 2 (UNI) A major fire broke out at the building of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) at Nhava Sheva in Raigard district in the early hours today due to a short circuit.

Navi Mumbai police control room sources said a fire broke out on the third floor of the building, where the records of custom clearance have been stored, at around 0430 hrs today. Several documents were damaged.

However, no casualty has been reported in the incident.

Twelve persons, who were in the building were rescued, sources added.

The JNPT handles over 50 per cent of the country's container traffic.

Four fire tenders and three water tankers were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire, police said.
